Two drawings, each measuring approximately 11.8 x 18 inches, serve as a visual interpretation of the energy crisis currently affecting Venezuela, with a particular focus on the city of Mérida, where power outages have become a part of daily life.

Both scenes the entrance and the exit of a cave symbolically represent the constant dualities we face: turning on or off, moving forward or stopping, staying or leaving. The cave becomes an image of forced refuge and uncertainty, a metaphor for the physical and emotional confinement imposed by a collapsed electrical system.

Prolonged blackouts, unannounced interruptions, and the lack of concrete solutions have created a permanent state of unrest. This instability turns everyday actions into anxiety-laden decisions. The drawings aim to capture that constant state of alert the ongoing swing between light and shadow that defines life in Mérida today, as a reflection of a deepening structural crisis.
